Vocal Solo

General Musical Category Instructions

  1. All presentations of God-honoring music must be done live.
  2. Memorizing music is recommended but the use of music is permitted and will not affect the judging.
  3. Accompaniment must observe the following guidelines:
    • Must be provided by the participant.
    • Must be performed live or use prerecorded tape or CD. Participants are responsible for providing a portable tape or CD player, if necessary, at the time of their presentation.
  4. We recognize signing as a legitimate ministry and it may be used in any category as long as it meets the rules of that category. The presentation will be judged on the basis of the rules of that category not the signing. Signing in individual categories must be done by the individual participant in that category.
  5. Any type of dance or dance interpretation is excluded from all categories.
  6. Presentations are to be no longer than five minutes in length.

Vocal Groups

 

General Musical Category Instructions

  1. All presentations of God-honoring music must be done live.

Accompaniment must observe the following guidelines:

  1. Must be provided by the participant.
  2. Must be performed live or use prerecorded tape or CD. Participants are responsible for providing a portable tape or CD player, if necessary, at the time of their presentation.
  3. A teen accompanist for a group has the option of being recognized as part of the group if all other General Rules are met, and as such will be eligible for awards.
  4. We recognize signing as a legitimate ministry and it may be used in any category as long as it meets the rules of that category. The presentation will be judged on the basis of the rules of that category not the signing. Signing in individual categories must be done by the individual participant in that category.
  5. Any type of dance or dance interpretation is excluded from all categories.
  6. Presentations are to be no longer than ten minutes in length.

 

Specific Vocal Group Instructions

  1. Categories: (9th & 10th) and (11th & 12th)
  2. Music Styles which are permitted include: acappella, traditional hymns, southern gospel, light & moderate contemporary. Please avoid extreme contemporary & Christian rock music styles.

 

Instrumental

General Musical Category Instructions

  1. All presentations of God-honoring music must be done live.
  2. Drum sets of any kind are excluded.
  3. Memorizing music is recommended but the use of music is permitted and will not affect the judging.
  4. Accompaniment must observe the following guidelines:

    A.  Must be provided by the participant.

B.  Must be performed live.

5.  Presentations are to be no longer than seven minutes in length.

Specific Instrumental Instructions

  1. Categories: (9th & 10th) and (11th & 12th)

 

Preaching

 

General Speaking Category Instructions

  1. Each entry must include a live verbal presentation.
  2. Presentations are to be no longer than seven minutes in length including prayer and invitation.

Each presentation must:

  1. Be based on a Bible text or principle.
  2. Be geared to move the audience to a spiritual decision (i.e. salvation, dedication, etc.)
  3. Include an introduction, application and a public invitation, which matches the content of the presentation and must be presented live by a teen (not a puppet, etc.)
  4. Adults, teens and children who are not registered participants are not permitted to be involved in the presentation, i.e. operating audiovisual equipment, handing or receiving props during presentation, warning of time remaining or any other form of coaching or prompting from the audience.
  5. Although humor has its place, every presentation should first and foremost provide a spiritual challenge and application that is true to the Scriptures and which glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ.
  6. We recognize signing as a legitimate ministry and it may be used in any category as long as it meets the rules of that category. The presentation will be judged on the basis of the rules of that category, not the signing. Signing in individual categories must be done by the individual participant in that category.
  7. Any type of dance or dance interpretation is not permitted in any category.

 

Specific Preaching Instructions

  1. Qualifications - Open to individual male teens.
  2. No Props Allowed - Bible, sermon notes and pulpit only.
  3. Competition will be divided into two groups - (9th & 10th) and (11th & 12th)

 

 

Teaching Children

Specific Teaching Children Instructions

Qualifications:

  1. Open to individual female teens.
  2. Must teach a Biblical principle, Bible account or a Bible character
    (i.e. honesty, feeding of the five thousand, David and Goliath, Jonah, etc.)
  3. Must be taught in the third person.
  4. Illustrations are allowed to develop and/or to apply the story.
  5. Presentations are to be geared to age 11 and under and given as if they were being told to the particular age group and not adapted for the judges or audience.

Props Allowed:

  1. A Bible, outline notes, a podium and a table for props.
  2. A single tripod or easel with flannel graph board and figures, or poster board drawings.
  3. Hand-held flip cards.
  4. Illustrated Bible storybook.
  5. Handheld objects to be used for object lessons.

 

 

Drama
